Jaguars Respond To Trevor Lawrence Trade Rumor

Two years ago, the Jacksonville Jaguars looked like a team on the rise after they won seven of their last nine regular-season games and overcame a 27-0 deficit to defeat the Los Angeles Chargers in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

But they didn’t make the playoffs in 2023, and this season, they fell all the way to a 4-13 finish, which has made their immediate future murky and even gloomy.

Two years ago, quarterback Trevor Lawrence looked to be on his way to stardom, but after the Jaguars gave him a five-year, $275 million contract extension in June, he’s starting to look like someone who isn’t worth a huge investment in.

People have been buzzing about a tweet from Ryan Burr, who is mostly known for covering golf and college basketball, that claimed the Pittsburgh Steelers have asked about Jaguars about a potential Lawrence trade.

Per Michael DiRocco, who covers the Jaguars for ESPN, the team has vehemently denied it is considering trading Lawrence.

In 2022, his second NFL season, Lawrence, who was the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, threw for 4,113 yards and 25 touchdowns and was starting to look like a star in the making after getting his first Pro Bowl nod.

But his production has regressed since, and in 2024, he mustered only 2,045 passing yards and 11 passing touchdowns while completing an anemic 60.6 percent of his pass attempts in 10 games.

Jacksonville lost a key player this past offseason in wide receiver Calvin Ridley, but they now have a potential alpha wideout in Brian Thomas, who put up 87 catches, 1,282 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns as a rookie this season.

They will need a lot more than improvements from Thomas and Lawrence in order to return to the playoffs in a crowded AFC next season, however.
