Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks was a young man when he entered the NBA back in 2013.
Some people might not understand just how trying and scary a rookie season can be, especially when the player is so young.
Speaking on his brother’s show, via ESPN Milwaukee, Antetokounmpo opened up about this first year in the league and how tough it was.
He said he wound up crying in general manager John Hammond’s office, upset by just how much he missed his family.
Plus, Antetokounmpo said that he had a hard time communicating with the rest of his team because his English wasn’t great.
All in all, it sounds like Antetokounmpo’s first year in the NBA was a complicated and exhausting time.
Antetokounmpo was just 19 years old when he was drafted by the Bucks before the 2013-14 season.
He was an unknown to many NBA players and stars and most people didn’t even know how to properly pronounce his name.
The Antetokounmpo of 2013 looked very different from the player we see today.
He was incredibly young and had a thin frame.
A lot of fans feared he didn’t have what it takes to make a name for himself in the NBA.
During his rookie year, Antetokounmpo created an impact, averaging 6.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game on 41.4 percent from the field.
Over the next few years, his skills improved and Antetokounmpo became more comfortable.
By the time his brothers also joined the NBA, Antetokounmpo was talked about as one of the best young players in the league and was already being called a future MVP.
It’s a good thing that Antetokounmpo stuck it out and fought through his fear and loneliness because he turned into one of the most impressive and historic players of his generation.
