Wayne Bennett has been hit with a fresh injury crisis as Cameron Murray and Latrell Mitchell both left South Sydney training early on a chaotic Wednesday morning at Heffron Park.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Souths captain Murray has suffered an Achilles injury that could end his 2025 season before it begins with Laurie Daley’s NSW Origin side also likely to be without the 27-year-old for this year’s series against Queensland.
The popular NRL Physio account on X said Murray is facing up to eight months on the sidelines.
Murray was on the comeback trail from his previous injury, a wrist problem suffered in Kangaroos camp during the end-of-season Pacific Championship campaign but was expected to lead out the cardinal and myrtle against the Dolphins in Round 1.
Meanwhile Mitchell sustained a hamstring injury and will have scans in the coming days to determine the severity with the club immediately ruling their star fullback out of Saturday’s Charity Shield clash with the Dragons in Mudgee.
Having served his one-match suspension in the All-Stars fixture, Mitchell is free to play against Kristian Woolf’s side if medically cleared.
