Pro Football Focus has released its ranking of the top 101 players in the NFL this season, and there is at least one surprise, especially at or near the top of the list.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen won this season’s league MVP award after throwing for 3,731 yards and 28 touchdowns while running for 531 yards and 12 touchdowns and leading the Bills to a 13-4 regular-season record.
He narrowly edged out Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson in one of the closest MVP races in recent memory.
However, Pro Football Focus saw it differently, as its staff ranked Jackson the NFL’s best player this season, and he became the first signal-caller to ever notch passing and rushing grades of at least 90 in the same year.

Jackson won the 2023 NFL MVP, but his 2024 campaign was probably his best ever, at least from a statistical standpoint.
He set new career highs in passing yards (4,172), passing touchdowns (41) and passer rating (119.6), and he led everyone in passer rating, QBR (77.3), yards gained per pass attempt (8.8) and touchdown percentage (8.6).
As usual, he was a terror on the ground with 915 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns, not to mention a league-high 6.6 yards per rush attempt.
Lots of pressure was taken off of Jackson by the offseason addition of Derrick Henry, the star running back who is one of nine players to ever reach 2,000 rushing yards in a single season.
He flirted with that mark again by running for 1,921 yards while scoring 16 rushing touchdowns, which was tied for the most in the NFL.
Meanwhile, Allen came in at No. 6 on Pro Football Focus’ list — Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow, who had more passing yards and passing touchdowns than anyone else this season, was placed ahead of him at No. 4.
