Midwest Spotlight: Four offseason risers
The offseason circuit is warming up all over the country with marquee events taking place every weekend. In the Midwest, many prospects have backed up their lofty rankings while others work to impress and improve their stock.
Rivals national recruiting analyst Greg Smith highlights four prospects in the Midwest that have boosted their stock already this offseason.
Standing at 6-foot-8 and 305 pounds, the Chicago native recently transferred from Phillips to Mount Carmel. After getting into the powerhouse program he’s seen his recruitment take off in a major way.
His most recent offers include Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State. Mpouma is still raw and learning the game but his size and athleticism are a combination that is too hard to ignore.
Perez has flown way under the radar as coaches get wind of 2027 prospects. However, I can see that changing in a big way soon. When you turn on the film, you see a long and lean prospect that can both rush the passer and hold up in the run game. His frame will be able to hold plenty more weight too and his game will keep getting refined.
Tennessee was his first SEC offer recently but expect his recruitment to catch fire soon.
Even though the 2027 standout is already a top-100 prospect he’s got room to continue rising up the rankings. Pittman is a dynamic playmaker that has been turning heads on the 7-on-7 circuit this winter. His recruitment is picking steam lately too with his most recent offer being from LSU.
The Tigers offering the defensive back will surely catch the attention of other programs throughout the South as recruitment goes national.
Trout has been a Minnesota commit since January. When checking him out on film it’s easy to see why he’s a candidate to be a riser. As a sophomore he played with good power and leverage with good feet to match.
Even though he missed most of his junior season with a leg injury he’s been on the camp circuit already and is turning heads. Trout looks like a Big Ten lineman already and could be a multi-year starter for the Gophers.
