Betting Odds Show Huge Favorite To Win NBA Coach Of The Year

There have been a few teams across the NBA who have exceeded expectations this season, and it has made their head coach a candidate for the Coach of the Year award.

But right now, there is one heavy favorite to come away with that honor.

According to betting odds from Bovada, Kenny Atkinson, the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, is an overwhelming favorite to win Coach of the Year, via NBACentral.

Atkinson is in his first year at the helm of the Cavaliers after they parted with J.B. Bickerstaff following last season.

Coincidentally, Bickerstaff, now head coach of the Detroit Pistons, is second in the betting odds at +750, well behind Atkinson at -750.

In the previous two seasons, the Cavs made the playoffs and were a solid team, but their offense was merely average, and despite possessing plenty of speed and youth, they played at a slow pace.

Atkinson has remade them into a faster-paced team and increased their volume of 3-point attempts, and this new philosophy has resulted in them ranking at or near the top of the league in several offensive metrics.

Cleveland entered play Wednesday with a 48-10 record, which is the best in the NBA, and a growing number of people feel they have a good chance of winning the championship.

The Cavs recently traded for forward De’Andre Hunter, and the two-way player is seen by many as perhaps the final piece to a championship puzzle for Cleveland.

In six games with the Cavs, Hunter is averaging 14.0 points per game while shooting 50.0 percent from the field and 56.7 percent from 3-point range.
