The win for Michigan State was its fourth straight, with three coming against a ranked opponent, and it put the Spartans in sole possession of first place in the Big Ten.

Holloman scored all nine of his points in the second half, including the game-winner. His buzzer-beater from beyond half-court was his only made three-point shot of the game.

Jase Richardson was the only Michigan State player in double figures, scoring 15 points and collecting eight rebounds. Szymon Zapala was the next closest to double digits with seven points.

Maryland’s starting five scores more points than any other starting unit in the country, and that continued Wednesday night as its starters scored all 55 points.

Rodney Rice led that group with 20 points, followed by Ja’Kobi Gillespie with 15 points and Derik Queen with 10. Queen also collected 10 rebounds, giving him a double-double for the fifth straight game.

Michigan State will now control its own destiny in its quest for the Big Ten regular season championship. 

A matchup against in-state rival Michigan in the final game of the season will more than likely decide who wins the conference and earns the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten tournament.
