Maple Leafs forward Ryan Reaves clears waivers

Reaves cleared an hour ahead of the NHL trade deadline, giving the Maple Leafs a bit more cap leeway to acquire potential assets.

The 38-year-old Reaves was a frequent healthy scratch and was inserted into the lineup last Friday for the first time in 24 days against the New York Rangers to counter fellow tough guy Matt Rempe.

Reaves has just two assists in 35 games with the Maple Leafs this season, along with 28 penalty minutes.

He signed with Toronto as a free agent in 2023 and is in the second season of a three-year deal.

Reaves has 137 points (63 goals and 74 assists) in 912 career games over 15 seasons with the St. Louis Blues, Pittsburgh Penguins, Vegas Golden Knights, Rangers, Minnesota Wild and Maple Leafs.

The Maple Leafs (38-21-3) are second in the Atlantic Division and next play Saturday against the Colorado Avalanche.
