OHL outlines reinstatement requirements for suspended Knight Cameron Allen

After pleading guilty to impaired driving, London Knights player Cameron Allen will face consequences imposed by the Ontario Hockey League before he takes the ice again.

The OHL has concluded its review into the Knights defenceman, who was charged with one count of impaired driving on Thursday, and he will have to fulfil several requirements should he want to return by March 16, when he is eligible to return after a 15-game suspension.

According to the league, Allen will have to enroll in mandatory counselling for substance abuse and follow an associated treatment plan. Additionally, he will engage in community service, participate in an accountability program, and will be subject to a probationary period upon returning to play.

Allen is being suspended following a single-car crash on Feb. 8 and an ensuing London police investigation. The defenceman was originally given five charges, including impaired driving and failing to remain at the scene.

He pled guilty to the one count of impaired driving and, along with the league-imposed restrictions, was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and is prohibited from driving for two years. He’ll also have to attend alcohol-related counselling as part of his sentence and was handed a $4,000 fine with a $1,200 victim surcharge, for a total of $5,200.

The 20-year-old Allen, a fifth-round pick by the Washington Capitals in 2023, was acquired by the league-leading Knights from the Guelph Storm earlier this season. The Toronto native has 11 goals and 31 assists for 42 points in 45 games with Guelph and London this season.

Allen was invited to the Canadian junior team’s selection camp earlier this season in Ottawa, but was cut prior to the world junior championship.
