Wests Tigers prodigy Lachlan Galvin’s contract situation; Michael Chammas provides update

Prodigious Wests Tigers playmaker Lachlan Galvin will be heading to free-agency land to scope out a bumper deal with a new club.

That’s according to The Sydney Morning Herald’s Michael Chammas, who said on Nine’s 100% Footy on Monday night that Galvin and his agent, Isaac Moses, were continuing to brush off the Tigers in the club’s bid to lock him in on a long-term deal.

Galvin, the 2023 Australian Schoolboys captain and five-eighth, is contracted with Benji Marshall’s Tigers until the end of 2026.

The 19-year-old will be allowed to sign with a new club come November 1 this year if he hasn’t already committed to the Tigers.

“Lachie Galvin is in no rush to commit to the Wests Tigers and management is out there basically letting it be known to every club, ‘Get your cheque book ready because we’re hitting November 1’,” Chammas said.

“… I imagine there’ll be plenty of suitors lining up with that cheque book.”

Galvin is said to be earning $250,000 this year with his salary reportedly set to be budged up to $350,000 in 2026.

The former Westfield Sports High student lined up at five-eighth against the Knights in round one, partnering big-money recruit Jarome Luai in the halves.

Billy Slater said on his podcast last month that “it wouldn’t surprise” him if Luai and Galvin swapped positions at some point this season.

In Wide World of Sports’ Six Tackles with Gus, Phil Gould said Galvin is destined to win multiple NRL premierships and could be the best player in the competition.

The Tigers will face the Eels at CommBank Stadium on Sunday afternoon in search of their first win of the season.
