Maynard involved in car crash with tradies that left vehicles ‘banged up’

Collingwood premiership player Brayden Maynard is in no doubt to take on Port Adelaide on Saturday night, despite being involved in a car accident on Thursday morning.

Maynard collided with a ute in Brighton that left both vehicles ‘banged up’, according to Nine’s Tom Morris.

However, Maynard and the two tradies also involved in the collision escaped unscathed.

“Collingwood star Brayden Maynard was involved in a car accident this morning in Brighton,” Morris wrote on X.

“His car crashed into a ute. Thankfully the two tradies in the ute & Maynard are OK, but both vehicles are banged up.

“Maynard is expected to be at training tomorrow and play Saturday. Big relief for all involved. Witnesses say it was a scary moment when the cars collided.”

Magpies football general manager Charlie Gardiner described the incident as an ‘unfortunate accident’.

“Fortunately, neither Brayden nor the passengers in the other vehicle were hurt in the accident,” Collingwood footy boss Charlie Gardiner said in a statement on Thursday.

“Speaking with Brayden this morning, this was an unfortunate accident, but thankfully he and the other driver and passenger were okay.”

Maynard was previously involved in a minor car crash in early 2024 that saw him miss training, while in the lead-up to the Magpies’ 2022 preliminary final loss to Sydney, teammates Josh Carmichael and Beau McCreery were involved in an accident on the Monash Freeway en route to Sydney airport.

Maynard has played 210 games for the Magpies, including their 2023 grand final triumph, and is set to play a key role as the Pies attempt to turn around their disappointing Opening Round loss to GWS.
