Manly have breathed a sigh of relief after scans on superstar fullback Tom Trbojevic‘s left hamstring and captain Daly Cherry-Evans’ back injury showing no serious damage.
Trbojevic suffered hamstring tightness when he left the Go Media Stadium field with 15 minutes to play of their loss to the Warriors.
Unlike Trbojevic’s six previous hamstring injuries, the fullback did not pull up while running or show any clear signs of immense pain when he felt the tightness.
Cherry-Evans’ left the field while struggling with back spasms late in the loss.
The club is hopeful that both of them will be right to face giant-killers Canberra on Sunday.
Manly hooker Gordon Chan Kum Tong could be banned after he grabbed the arm of a spectator on the sideline during an altercation in the second half.
Penrith are yet to reveal the result of scans on Dylan Edwards‘ groin. The Panthers were hopeful the Kangaroos Test fullback’s injury was not a bad one, given the fullback was able to move around well on Saturday morning.
He left the field midway through the second half of their upset loss to the Roosters.
New recruit Blaize Talagi could make his club debut for Penrith or Daine Laurie could be elevated to the starting side if Edwards is out.
On the judiciary front, Brisbane hooker Cory Paix has evaded a ban after the NRL match review committee let him off the hook for a dangerous lifting tackle on Raiders counterpart Tom Starling.
Paix dumped Starling on his head as he lifted his opposing hooker well above the horizontal early in the second half of Canberra’s upset win.

Paix will be fined $1000 with an early guilty plea while teammate Kobe Hetherington will pay $3000 or cop a two-game ban for a crusher tackle on Raiders forward Zac Hosking.
Bunnies forward Lachlan Hubner has been banned 2-3 weeks for a crusher tackle on Dragons veteran Clint Gutherson.
Roosters forward Salesi Foketi will be suspended for Round 3 after a controversial decision to send him to the sin bin late in his team’s stirring win over Penrith.
Newcastle’s depth is in for an early-season test with second-rower Kai Pearce-Paul facing a two-match ban and Leo Thompson expected to miss time with a knee injury.
