76ers star forward Paul George out for the season

The Philadelphia 76ers will once again lose one of their premier players to injury.

ESPN insider Shams Charania reported Monday that George received injections in his left adductor muscle and left knee and is ruled out for the remainder of the season.

The 76ers released a statement shortly afterward.

George signed a lucrative four-year, $212M dollar contract with Philadelphia last summer. The 34-year old forward participated in just 41 out of a possible 67 games the 76ers have played due to injury issues.

The nine-time All-Star averaged 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists with a 43% shooting mark from the field and a 35.8% mark from three-point range. George’s scoring and shooting numbers dropped dramatically compared to his final season with the Los Angeles Clippers last year.

The 76ers roster has suffered ample injuries this season, including to rookie guard Jared McCain and 2023 MVP Joel Embiid.

McCain was a frontrunner in the Rookie of the Year race until he suffered a torn meniscus in December. Embiid was recently shut down due to his lingering knee issues. The two-time scoring champion played in only 19 games for Philadelphia this season.

The 76ers had high expectations heading into the season. Now, the organization will have to figure out how to proceed with its two top stars struggling to stay healthy.
