Bobby V, LSL returns, Suaalii, Savea sidelined again, TWELVE stars injured for Blues

Welcome to the Super Rugby Pacific Casualty Ward, the hub of all injury updates and news for the 2025 season.

All sides have named their squads for this week on Wednesday, with several big names set to play their first minutes in 2025.

The Reds and Blues currently sit at the high end of the ledger – but while the Reds have a vast amount of Wallabies still at their disposal, the Blues casualty ward makes for grim reading, with 12 stars sidelined.

That is before you get to Moana Pasifika, who come out off the bye with a mammoth five new injuries – including their captain, Ardie Savea.

On the Australian front, several big stars, led by Rob Valetini and Lukhan Salakia-Loto, will make their long-awaited returns, with the Force also welcoming back five Wallabies into their starting side.

However, it isn’t all good news – with Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii sidelined yet again after news broke yesterday that he would play against the Brumbies – while the Reds lose three critical Wallabies for their trip to Dunedin, bringing up their injury count to 11 players.

Lastly, this page will be under heavy construction throughout the season – the casualty ward is accurate as of Wednesday, 19th March 2025, ahead of round six of Super Rugby Pacific.

ACT Brumbies

Bobby V is back! After missing the first five rounds, incumbent John Eales medalist Rob Valetini returns this weekend for the men from Canberra – and at an ideal time too, with the Brumbies surviving a tough opening to the season and still sitting in the top four.

However, despite the key inclusion, it has been more bad news than good for the Brumbies. It has been revealed that four of their six injured players are set for long stints on the sidelines. Valetini’s return is even more crucial when you consider the loss of Charlie Cale to a back injury, which should see him sidelined long-term. David Feliuai also continues his bad run of injuries, returning to the casualty ward for the second time this year with a concussion.

New injuries:

  • Charlie Cale – back – Duration: long-term – Earliest return: TBC
  • David Feliuai – concussion – Duration: 1-2 weeks – Earliest return: round seven

Ongoing:

  • Ben O’Donnell – Hamstring – Duration: long-term – Earliest Return: TBC

NSW Waratahs

Just when we thought we could celebrate Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii’s return. After news broke yesterday that the Wallaby would be back for a crucial clash against the Brumbies, the Tahs have changed their mind and will give him another week on the sidelines, maybe due to issues during training earlier on Wednesday.

Frustrations aside, it has been a good week for the Tahs, with the side welcoming back Darby Lancaster and Miles Amatosero from a leg and back injury, respectively, although neither have been named in their side this weekend.

Western Force

After coming back from injury last week, Divad Palu is set to return to the casualty ward again after picking up a shoulder injury in Christchurch.

However, all things considered, it’s not a bad week for Simon Cron, with four Wallabies back into the side, plus the well-timed return from injury of a fifth in Dylan Pietsch. Nick Champion de Crespigny also passed his head concussion protocols, which sees him slot back into the side.

New injuries:

  • Divad Palu – Shoulder – Duration: TBC – Earliest return: TBC

Queensland Reds

Thank god the Reds have such insane depth because their injury list right now makes for grim reading – with a massive 11 players on the sidelines, including seven Wallabies. The big losses this week come in the form of two Wallaby hookers in Matt Faessler and Josh Nasser, with Junior Wallaby Frankie Goldsbrough also set to miss the trip to Dunedin. The biggest loss however is Fraser McReight, who has picked up a shoulder injury in his side’s win over the Waratahs.

There is good news though, which is the crucial return of Wallaby veteran Lukhan Salakia-Loto from a fibula injury. He’ll come off the bench for the Reds side – and even with all the injuries, the side heading to Dunedin features ten Wallabies and three Australia XV representatives. Insane depth.

Fijian Drua

Well, it was good while it lasted. The Drua have recorded two injuries this week, with Epeli Momo readmitted for niggling issues with his knee.

However, the bigger loss is international star Selestino Ravutaumada, who will sit out their trip to face the Force with an HIA. He will return after the Drua’s bye in round seven.

Moana Pasifika

They may have recorded their first win of the year against the Hurricanes, but the result came at a cost for Moana Pasifika.

Five players copped injuries against the Hurricanes, with the biggest being skipper Ardie Savea and international star James Lay, with Danny Toala a crucial loss in the backline. However, it isn’t all bad news, with Tongan international Fine Inisi back from injury, while Tito Tuipulotu (brother of All Black Patrick), also comes off the casualty ward and onto the bench.

Blues

Where do you even begin with the Blues? It is grim reading, and it has gotten even worse following their loss to the Chiefs, with a combined 12 players sidelined.

The big casualty ward was joined by crucial backline player AJ Lam, with All Black Ofa Tu’ungafasi and Anton Segner also both sidelined. The bright sparks in this dark cloud is the crucial return of Hoskins Sotutu from suspension and James Mullan from a head injury. Unsurprisingly, both go straight into the match day 23.

New injuries:

Crusaders

Rob Penney’s men did not escape last week’s win over the Force totally unscathed, sustaining two losses in All Blacks Braydon Ennor and Ethan Blackadder.

However, they will swap them out for two other All Blacks who have been discharged from the casualty ward and will come into the matchday 23, with Cullen Grace and Noah Hotham both set to head to Auckland.

Highlanders

While the Highlanders went down last week, they, fortunately, made it through the match unscathed – which was sorely needed, given their depth is a major asterisk over their title credentials this season.

The side will welcome back Daniel Lienert-Brown (suspension) and Finn Hurley (quad) from the casualty ward, with the latter coming into the starting side for their match against the Reds. However, their hopes of having Cameron Millar, Folau Fakatava and Hugh Renton also back in the side have proven not to be the case, with the trio set for another week on the sidelines.

New injuries:
