Final restart at Homestead doomed Kyle Larson’s weekend sweep

Kyle Larson was well on his way to winning Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway with eight laps to go.

Larson was the dominant driver of the day and held a 16.6-second lead over Sam Mayer — until the caution flag flew for a spinning Taylor Gray.

That set up a two-lap dash to the finish, with Larson and Austin Hill on the front row.

Unfortunately for Larson, his chance to win failed when the green flag flew for the race’s final restart. Mayer hit the rear of Larson’s car on the restart, which upset Larson’s Chevrolet and shot Hill and Justin Allgaier to the top two.
