Texans Are Working Out Promising TE Prospect Today

The Houston Texans’ annual local prospect day brought a flurry of hopeful draft candidates to Strake Jesuit Football on Thursday, giving scouts a closer look at hometown heroes who might soon don the famous deep steel blue and battle red uniforms.

Among those showcasing their abilities was Northwestern tight end Thomas Gordon, whose Houston roots run deep.

His participation caught the attention of local media, with insider Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston breaking the news to eager fans.

“#Texans working out Northwestern tight end Thomas Gordon @STRAKEJESUITFB today at local prospect day, per league source, previously #Bears local day. Gordon (6-5, 255) caught career-high 27 catches for 252 yards, one touchdown last season. All-district selection 104 career catches, 1,550 yards and 20 touchdowns in high school playing for Klay Kubiak,” Wilson reported.

The Houston Texans’ interest in Gordon makes perfect sense as they look to strengthen their tight end room heading into the 2025 season.

At 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds, Gordon brings an appealing combination of pass-catching ability and blocking prowess that could address a key need in the offense.

His familiarity with Houston might also give him an edge in adapting quickly to the team’s culture and system.

For Gordon, this workout represents a homecoming of sorts.

The Northwestern standout cut his teeth at Strake Jesuit in Houston, where he built an impressive high school resume.

His development from District 19-6A Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore to first-team all-district selection as a junior showcased his steady growth as a player.

His college career at Northwestern demonstrated similar progress, culminating in a senior season where he hauled in a career-best 27 receptions for 252 yards and a touchdown.

While these numbers might not leap off the stat sheet, scouts have noted his reliability as a blocker and his untapped potential in the passing game.
