The Detroit Lions were the best team in the NFC last season, at least during the regular season.
It was a major surprise to see them then flame out in the playoffs, and after losing their offensive and defensive coordinators this offseason, some believe they’re due for regression.
However, as hard as last season’s ending was, the Lions still have one of the most stacked rosters in the NFL.
They’ve built it by taking a “best player available” approach more often than not, and though that could continue in the 2025 NFL Draft, they are also open to making a move.
“Lions GM Brad Holmes says he will continue his philosophy of drafting the best player as always, but trading down could be an option, in the right situation. Detroit currently holds the 28th overall pick,” Eric Woodyard of ESPN wrote on X.

The Lions don’t have glaring needs to fill, and every player they draft will most likely be a luxury add.
As such, they can afford to take different approaches to this draft.
It also could be a bit of a smokescreen, and Detroit could end up with multiple draft picks to possibly trade up.
Whatever the case, the team should continue to be near the top of the standings next season.
Losing Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson to head coaching jobs is a concern, and Dan Campbell’s sometimes reckless decision-making is another reason for worry.
But with the current roster, the Lions can hold their own with the strongest teams in the league.
