Colorado OC compares Shedeur Sanders to failed former Giants QB

A former New York Giants coach had some nice things to say about quarterback Shedeur Sanders, but many Giants fans are not going to like the comparison he made.

Former Giants coach Pat Shurmur has worked with Sanders as Colorado’s offensive coordinator. He said he sees some similarities between Sanders and former Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, who Shurmur coached in 2019.

“I think they’re very similar prospects, from a player and a person,” Shurmur told Paul Schwartz of The New York Post. “I think they’re both wonderful human beings, they’re both highly accomplished, talented college players that have a chance to make an impact in the NFL, so there’s a lot of similarities between Daniel Jones and Shedeur Sanders.”

Shurmur meant this as a compliment, but Giants fans probably will not take it as such. While Jones had some initial success with New York, his second contract turned out to be a disaster and the team unceremoniously dumped him this past season. If the Giants are considering taking Sanders at No. 3 overall, they will want a much more successful career than that.

Sanders continues to divide opinion among NFL evaluators. The Giants selected Jones at No. 6 in 2019, so it would be a similar investment to select Sanders.

The Giants have one more workout with Sanders before the draft, but recent rumors suggest they may be going in a different direction at this point. Giants fans would probably prefer that if Sanders is just the second coming of Jones. Some NFL teams may not even think he can achieve that.
