Ravens GM Gives Honest Thoughts On Mark Andrews’ Future

As the Baltimore Ravens navigate another offseason of tough decisions, Mark Andrews’ status suddenly appears less certain than fans might expect.

Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta recently raised eyebrows when discussing the Pro Bowl tight end’s future with the organization.

His carefully chosen words left room for interpretation about whether Andrews would remain with the team for the 2025 season.

“His competitiveness, his talent, his attitude, his leadership is so valued here,” DeCosta said, via FOX Sports insider Jordan Schultz. “He’s a great player. And I think we’re in the business of keeping as many great players as we can. So, there’s always a lot of unpredictability with the draft. You just never know.”

The timing of these comments is particularly interesting, as Schultz pointed out that Andrews is entering the final year of his contract with no guaranteed money remaining and a substantial $17 million salary cap charge.

Should the Ravens decide to move on, they could free up $11 million in cap space, valuable room for a team that’s always looking to maximize roster value.

Andrews didn’t help his case with his performance last season.

He posted his lowest yards per game since his rookie campaign, and his dropped two-point conversion in the AFC playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills looms large in recent memory.

Meanwhile, Isaiah Likely has emerged as a promising young tight end ready for an expanded role.

The Ravens also have multiple picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, giving them plenty of ammunition to target a talented tight end prospect like Elijah Arroyo, Harold Fannin Jr. or Mason Taylor.

Andrews may carry value on the market, making this potentially the optimal time for the Ravens to part with him before age becomes a limiting factor.

The Ravens have never been afraid to make bold roster moves, even with fan favorites, when they believe it serves the team’s long-term interests.
