Robin Kester Announces New Album ‘Dark Sky Reserve’, Unveils New Single

Robin Kester has announced a new LP, Dark Sky Reserve, which will be released on September 12 via Memphis Industries. It includes the Dutch artist’s previously released track ‘Departure’, featuring Rozi Plain, and today, she’s shared the nervy, kinetic new single ‘Happy Sad (It’s a Party)’. Check it out and find the album cover and tracklist below.

Dark Sky Reserve, the follow-up to Kester’s debut album Honeycomb Shades, was produced by Ali Chant. ‘Happy Sad (It’s A Party)’, a song Kester wrote in one night leading up to the studio sessions in Bristol, reflects on her relationship with herself. “Looking back at the lyrics, I realise I was talking to myself, almost like in a dream,” she explained. “I felt I was going somewhere at high speed, about to lose control, and had already passed the point of no return. A lot of this song carries that looming sense of anxiety. Consciously I kept trying to tell myself ‘don’t worry, you should enjoy what’s ahead’, but at a deeper level I hadn’t convinced myself at all.”

“This disconnect between the two versions of ‘me’ seeped back in the lyrics,” Kester added. “So to me this song is about this inner struggle about finding the guts to stay on track and go someplace unfamiliar and put yourself to the test.”
