Everyone understands that the Phoenix Suns had a very bad season, including the team’s owner.
Speaking with ESPN, Mat Ishbia got quite honest about the year the Suns had and made it clear that something has to change.
“Embarrassing season, right?” Ishbia said. “Disappointing. Awful. I watch every game like all you guys do and no one’s proud of it, no one’s happy with it, from me, to the front office, to the coaches and players, to the marketing executives to the security guards. It was a failure.”
When this season started, people had sky-high hopes for the Suns.
They thought this would be the year that the big three of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal would really produce.
They thought the team would be one of the best in the West and a true force in the playoffs.
Instead, the Suns fell dreadfully short, ending as the 11th seed and missing the playoffs entirely.
Right away, the Suns got to work at shaking things up and firing head coach Mike Budenholzer, but more changes are likely coming.
Ishbia will have to take some of the responsibility for the troubles of the team.
Since he purchased the Suns, they have sunk lower and lower in the standings, and it’ll be up to him to change things and give fans what they deserve.
There are many rumors about Durant leaving Phoenix in the summer, and a lot of speculation about the direction the team will take.
Losing Durant would be painful, but it could be just what the team needs and could bring them talent that will work well alongside Booker.
Ishbia has a lot on his plate and many things to decide.
He’s unhappy with the Suns and knows this summer will be very busy.
