The New England Patriots’ offseason roster moves created quite a stir among the fan base as a surprise departure took center stage with the release of veteran captain David Andrews.
Andrews, who missed significant time in 2024 with a shoulder injury, was widely considered a vital presence for the offensive line heading into the 2025 season.
The news apparently also caught Andrews by surprise, sparking speculation about his NFL future.
Retirement rumors gained momentum, and Andrews recently spoke openly about his uncertain path forward.
“I’m gonna figure it out. I don’t know if I wanna play. I don’t know how much I have left in me to go somewhere else, start over,” Andrews said, via Patriots on CLNS Media. “To me, if I didn’t care about the place I was playing, then you’re just playing for a paycheck, and that was never really why I started doing this.”

Should the 32-year-old decide against continuing his career with another team, the Patriots are expected to honor his contributions with a formal retirement ceremony celebrating his leadership and service.
Throughout his tenure, Andrews served as the steady anchor of New England’s offensive line and played a crucial role during several successful campaigns.
His departure marks the exit of the final offensive starter from the team that won their last Super Bowl, in the 2018 season.
Owner Robert Kraft has publicly acknowledged Andrews for his dedication, heart and profound impact on the culture of the organization.
The veteran now faces the difficult crossroads many aging players encounter: whether to push through physical limitations with a new team or step away from the game.
