MANILA, Philippines—Phoenix coach Jamike Jarin isn’t concerned about the possibility of the long break affecting his team in the PBA Philippine Cup.

“When you’re talking about rust… you need WD40, right? So there’s that,” Jarin said in jest.

“Kidding aside, I’m very confident with the way our players, coaches and trainers prepare especially with long or short breaks. I’m very confident with our staff and the players. Let’s see.”

Before the Holy Week break, the Fuel Masters defeated no less than the defending PBA Philippine Cup champion Meralco in a convincing 109-97 win at Ninoy Aquino Stadium last Sunday.

Phoenix won’t see action until the 26th, this Sunday, when they travel to Zamboanga and face unbeaten league-leader Magnolia.

Instead of worrying about losing rhythm with the 13-day pause, Jarin saw the break as a time for his injured players like Kent Salado and Ken Tuffin to get some much needed breather before plunging back into action.

“It is a luxury right now that we’ll be able to rest because some of our players got hurt earlier,” Jarin said.

“This is going to be a good sign for us because we have a lot of time to rest our bodies.”
