The Eastern Conference champion Washington Capitals will have their No. 1 goalie back to start the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Logan Thompson will return from an upper-body injury to start in Game 1 against the Montreal Canadiens on Monday.
Thompson had been sidelined since April 2 with the injury.
The six-foot-four netminder posted a 31-6-6 record for the Capitals this season to go along with a 2.49 goals against average and a .910 save percentage.
Thompson, 28, made his playoff debut last season for the Vegas Golden Knights, starting four games to the tune of a 2.35 goals against average and .921 save percentage.
If Thompson were unable to go, it stands to reason that Charlie Lindgren would have gotten the start in his place. The 31-year-old served as the Capitals’ starting goaltender in the 2023-24 Stanley Cup Playoffs where they were swept in the first round by the New York Rangers.
Lindgren, 31, started five of the Capitals’ seven games in Thompson’s absence, posting a 3.15 goals against average and a .880 save percentage.
