Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones insists he has something in the works before the 2025 NFL Draft, scheduled Thursday-Saturday in Green Bay. 

In his Tuesday news conference, Jones said the Cowboys are working on two trades. 

“We’re looking at two things that could happen before or after the draft,” Jones said, via Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “Two pretty substantive trades. Been working on today.” 

Jones didn’t specify whether they will move up or down from pick No. 12. 

On a Tuesday episode of “Get Up,” ESPN’s Peter Schrager said the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants are fielding calls for their respective selections. Cleveland has pick No. 2, while New York holds pick No. 3. 

To move into the top three, however, Dallas may have to trade multiple picks, and it may not be in a position to do that. 

The Cowboys have offensive and defensive needs. Last season, they ranked 21st in the league in points scored (20.6) and second-to-last in points allowed (27.5). 

Trading down seems more likely. In an interview with KRLD-FM in Dallas on April 15, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said he could see them move down.

In that case, they could acquire more picks and use them to reload their roster.

Moving down from pick No. 12 could mean the Cowboys are giving up a chance to take Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden (5-foot-11, 191 pounds), who ran a 4.29 40-yard dash at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. 

Still, the Cowboys could find a complement for WR CeeDee Lamb later in the first round, perhaps Ohio State’s Emeka Egbuka. The 6-foot-1, 202-pounder set a program record for receiving yards (2,868) in four seasons with the Buckeyes. 

Per Ed Werder of WFAA-TV in Dallas, the Cowboys have made 72 draft-day trades since Jones bought the team in 1989. Once again, it appears Jones and Co. are planning to make a deal to address the team’s holes.
