Steelers GM Shares Update About Aaron Rodgers’ Status

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been one of the most interesting teams to watch out for during the 2025 NFL draft, as they have a clear need at quarterback.

As of now, the only quarterbacks on the Steelers’ roster are Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson, so they will clearly be adding someone before the start of the 2025 NFL season.

Pittsburgh was the most logical landing spot for Shedeur Sanders in the draft, but the team has now passed on him multiple times.

Instead, it feels like the Steelers are still holding out hope for Aaron Rodgers, who remains unsigned in free agency after being released by the New York Jets.

Pittsburgh and Rodgers have been in communication with each other this offseason, though the two sides have yet to come to any sort of agreement.

As of now, though, it sounds like the Steelers are still patiently waiting, as Art Rooney II hasn’t closed the door on Rodgers via Brooke Pryor of ESPN.

“We’re still kind of getting the same signals that we’ve been getting recently,” Rooney told Steelers Nation Radio, the team’s flagship program, on Friday night. “He does want to come here, so I do think we may get word soon.”

Rooney appears to be in no rush when it comes to Rodgers and his decision, perhaps a way to show the quarterback that they’re willing to work with him as he decides whether or not to play next season.

Even if Rodgers does sign with the team, though, it’s hard to see the Steelers competing in a loaded AFC North and conference.
