Taylor Elgersma will have a shot to impress a pair of NFL teams.
The Canadian quarterback has been invited to Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers rookie mini-camps after going unselected in the NFL Draft on Saturday, per Justin Dunk of 3Down Nation.
The former Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks star was earlier hoping to become the first quarterback from a Canadian university to be drafted since the NFL went to a seven-round format in 1994. The last time a Canadian from U Sports was taken in the NFL Draft was Dan Feraday of the University of Toronto back in 1982
As the NFL Draft process began to ramp up, Elgersma made history by becoming the first Canadian university QB to be invited and play in the Senior Bowl — the premier annual All-Star event for the top seniors at the college level. He impressed scouts and coaches with his natural arm talent and frame — six-foot-five, 220 pounds.
Elgersma led the Golden Hawks to a Vanier Cup appearance last season on the heels of an Hec Crighton Trophy-winning season. The London, Ont. native threw for 4,011 yards with 34 touchdowns and only 10 interceptions in 2024.
Elgersma is also expected to be picked in Tuesday’s CFL Draft.
