Stanley Cup playoffs takeaways: Lightning-Panthers intensity rises

The Stanley Cup playoffs continued on Saturday with four games. Here are some key takeaways from the day’s action.

The battle of Florida is getting intense

It is not a surprise that the Florida Panthers-Tampa Bay Lightning series is getting heated. Not only are they two of the best and most physical teams in the NHL, they are also two fierce rivals that have had quite a few run-ins come playoff time.

All of that is starting to show.

The Lightning were able to get their first win of the series on Saturday, 5-1, thanks to a huge game from Jake Guentzel.

Tampa Bay also played without forward Brandon Hagel, who was serving a one-game suspension for a late hit on Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov in Game 2 of the series.

The Panthers might have to worry about a similar fate for one of their best players, Matthew Tkachuk, for a late hit on Guentzel in Saturday’s game.
