Seahawks GM Refutes Jalen Milroe’s Top QB Claim

The Seattle Seahawks opened the offseason with two major moves.

They cut ties with Geno Smith, allowing him to walk and sign elsewhere, picking up Sam Darnold in the process and signing him to a three-year deal.

Darnold, of course, was coming off a banner year with the Minnesota Vikings, and because they had J.J. McCarthy waiting in the wings, they had no choice but to let him go.

He’s now a member of the Seahawks and was seemingly a lock to be their Week 1 starter under center.

However, the Seahawks used a third-round pick on Jalen Milroe in this year’s draft, leading people to wonder if Darnold’s job isn’t so safe after all.

Milroe seems excited to be with the team, but he recently had an awkward moment at a press conference, which Dov Kleiman highlighted on X.

At one point, he mentioned that the Seahawks told him he was the best QB prospect in the draft, at least during a top-30 visit, but when a reporter brought that up, neither the GM nor their head coach agreed with the statement.

It’s not that they aren’t excited to have Milroe join the team, but it’s clear that they didn’t think he was the best quarterback in the class, putting them in a tough position.

It will be interesting to see if there’s any additional fallout from this, or if Milroe will make any more public comments on the situation.

For now, he needs to focus on what’s in front of him, which is fighting for the starting role with Darnold over the next several weeks.
