The Green Bay Packers continue their offseason roster shake-up with another strategic addition.
After making waves in the NFL draft, highlighted by drafting Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden in the first round, the team wasted no time turning to free agency once draft festivities concluded.
Tuesday saw General Manager Brian Gutekunst bolster the linebacker room with an intriguing pickup.
The team welcomed aboard Isaiah Simmons, a former top-10 selection still searching for his NFL groove as he heads into year six of his pro career.
“We signed LB Isaiah Simmons,” the Packers announced.

This move comes on the heels of the team parting ways with defensive lineman Leonard Payne, creating roster space for their newest addition.
Simmons’ path through the NFL hasn’t quite matched the expectations that came with his draft position.
Selected eighth overall by the Arizona Cardinals in 2020, he spent three seasons in the desert before taking on a backup role with the New York Giants for the past two years.
The former Clemson standout arrived in the league with eye-popping physical traits.
Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 238 pounds, Simmons turned the 2020 combine into his personal showcase.
His 4.39 time in the 40-yard dash and remarkable 1.51 10-yard split raised eyebrows across the league.
Add in a 39-inch vertical leap and the highest relative athletic score (99) among linebackers in his draft class, and it’s easy to see why scouts were drooling.
Despite collecting four interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and 7.5 sacks during his Cardinals tenure, Simmons hasn’t quite lived up to his draft status.
Now, the Green Bay Packers hope to unlock his considerable athletic gifts, potentially deploying him in blitz packages that could finally showcase the talents that made him a college star and Butkus Award winner during his junior season at Clemson.
