James suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee in Game 5, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported. That type of injury typically requires three-to-five weeks of recovery, he added.
The Lakers lost Game 5 to the Timberwolves 103-96 and were eliminated from the playoffs.
After the game, James, 40, said he would take some time to reflect this summer before deciding whether or not he will return for a 23rd season.
“It’s up to me if I’m going to continue to play, or how long I’m going to continue to play,” James said. “It’s ultimately up to me, so it has nothing to do with anybody else.”
The Timberwolves will play the winner of Saturday’s Game 7 between the Los Angeles Clippers and Denver Nuggets in Round 2.
