Stephen Curry Has Honest Admission About Rockets’ Intense Defensive Scheme

The Houston Rockets were able to get away with a lot against the Golden State Warriors on Friday.

At one point in the fourth quarter, the Warriors were down by 17 points.

They were able to close the gap a bit, but they still lost 115-107 and face Game 7 this Sunday in Houston.

Following the game, Steph Curry spoke with ESPN about the Rockets’ defensive plans and how they took advantage of the Warriors.

“There’s a reason they’re playing a zone for a whole half pretty much,” said Curry, who shot 9-for-23 and had 29 points and seven rebounds. “They’re trying to force a certain type of shot. I took probably four heavily contested deep 3s just to try to will us. If they’re going to do this and they’re going to play zone and make certain guys shoot it, then it’s the same way we talk about all season long, regular season, playoffs.”

According to ESPN, the Warriors shot just 13-for-30 against the Houston zone defense.

They missed 14 of their 15 shots in that scheme and were totally outplayed and smothered by the Rockets.

That clearly cannot stand, and something has to change in Game 7 or else it’ll be an easy victory for the Rockets.

The good news for Warriors fans is that head coach Steve Kerr is no stranger to moments like this.

Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler also have plenty of experience in Game 7s, and they hold confidence that they can overcome the defensive plans of Ime Udoka.

Curry and his team will have to find their shots and sometimes force themselves into good positions.

If the Rockets are aggressive, the Warriors have to be just as stubborn and strong.

They don’t have much room for error, and they know Game 7 cannot look like Game 6.
