Texas quarterback Arch Manning is seen as the potential runaway Heisman Trophy favorite now that he’ll finally get the chance to start after Quinn Ewers has moved on to the NFL.
Scouts around the league are salivating about the potential opportunity to select Manning with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, although one scouting director recently shared their doubts about his potential.
“The reality is we haven’t really seen him run the offense with any consistency yet. And that’s not his fault, he just hasn’t played. … Right now, the body of work is too small. We’ve seen big guys with talent, the tools, the arm, that don’t know how to process, and don’t have the accuracy to all levels of the field consistently enough. What we have on [Manning] isn’t nearly enough. You could guess, but that’s really all you’ll be doing, guessing,” the scouting director told NFL insider Albert Breer, via Dov Kleiman.

Manning could enter the 2026 draft, wait until 2027 or hold off until 2028, which would be a major surprise.
Word out of the Manning camp has been that the family wants him to get two years of starting experience, which he hasn’t come close to during his time in college thus far.
He saw limited action last season but was impressive with a 67.8 percent completion rate for 939 passing yards, nine touchdowns and just two interceptions while also running for 108 yards and four touchdowns.
The doubts surrounding Manning are mostly based on the unknown, as it was clear during his playing time that his ability is off the charts.
