Stanley Cup playoffs: Top five Conn Smythe Trophy candidates

The second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs is underway. Eight teams remain in the fight for the NHL crown thanks to some stellar performances from their star players.

As we move deeper into the postseason, a handful of elite players will distinguish themselves as the best of the best. With that, let’s take a look at the top five Conn Smythe candidates for top playoff performer.

Unsurprisingly, last year’s Conn Smythe Trophy winner is once again a top candidate for playoff MVP, leading the league in postseason assists and sitting second in points.

McDavid has been instrumental in Edmonton’s six straight come-from-behind victories, including setting up the game-winning goal in overtime Thursday night.
