Della Maddalena dethrones Muhammad to take welterweight title at UFC 315

The UFC has a new welterweight champion.

Jack Della Maddalena took the belt from Belal Muhammad with a unanimous decision victory at UFC 315 presented by Skilled Trades College in Montreal Saturday night.

It was Muhammad’s first attempt at defending his title, which he had claimed from Leon Edwards at UFC 304 last July.

The five-round championship matchups required all five rounds, with the Australian earning the nod over his Palestinian-American opponent.

Della Maddalena landed 200 total strikes compared to 155 for Muhammad, whose face was marked up and bloody by the end of the final round.

The bout earned both athletes a performance bonus for Fight of the Night.

Canadian fighters went 4-2 on the night with Mike Malott, Jasmine Jasudavicius and Marc-Andre Barriault all getting stoppage wins on the preliminary card.
