Some people within the Dallas Mavericks’ organization might want to buy some lottery tickets, because this team could be on the start of a lucky streak.
Jokes aside, the Mavericks had no business having the No. 1 overall pick due to their pre-lottery odds, but their name was pulled on Monday night.
Some are seeing this as a “rigged” move for the Mavericks, somewhat of a makeup decision after they lost out on Luka Doncic after his trade to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Others are choosing different approaches, including analyst Mike Greenberg, who indicated on X that if the Mavericks want Doncic back, they could make a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers, sending back the No. 1 pick in return.
Maybe the #Mavs can trade the first pick for Luka Doncic.

This isn’t going to happen, but he isn’t the only person around the NBA to point out the irony in this situation.
The Mavericks were a strong team with Doncic, but they took a major dive in production without him.
Now, they have an opportunity to build this team from the ground up by drafting Cooper Flagg, adding an ironclad prospect alongside Anthony Davis.
It’s unclear what the team’s plans are moving forward, as the lottery just happened, but the Mavericks would be wise to keep the momentum going over the next several months.
If they can afford it, adding some marquee free agents would help their cause in the short term, and if Flagg is as strong a player as many think he is, this team could be a contender for the foreseeable future.
