David Charles Serdeña, the golf prodigy whom Inquirer Golf had named ‘Boy Commute,’ will be the first beneficiary of The El Presidente Cup slated on June 13 at the well-manicured Legends layout of the Manila Southwoods in Carmona, Cavite.
The son of a caddy at the military-controlled Philippine Navy, Serdeña was named by host and PBA great Ramon Fernandez as the first underprivileged athlete that his foundation will help after having personally witnessed the desire of the teen phenom to excel.
This will be the thrust of Fernandez every time he hosts his charity golf tournament, which is open to anyone as organizers are bracing for a field of more than 120 players on tournament day.
“I am overwhelmed and grateful for the incredible support,” said Fernandez, a four-time PBA MVP who also took up golf as a hobby several decades ago. “After the success of the first El Presidente Cup, we’re expecting another sold-out event, this time, with even more excitement and heart.”
Serdeña has emerged as one of the most promising junior golfers in the country, winning major local titles. He is now preparing for three major international tournaments: the FCG International in Pala Mera, the USWING Tournament in San Diego and the FCG Championships in Palm Desert, all happening just days after the second El Presidente Cup.
“To be able to support a young talent like Charles Serdeña right before he represents our country abroad is truly a blessing,” said Fernandez. “This is what our foundation is all about: opening doors for those who dare to dream.”
Golfers can register for P5,000 (club members) and P10,000 (non-members), inclusive of special giveaways, green fee, caddy fee, golf cart use, lunch and a raffle coupon—plus live entertainment from OPM icons Side A, Ella May Saison, and Chad Borja.
Hole-in-one prizes include a Mitsubishi Mirage, a Jetour Ice Cream Electric Car, ₱100,000 in cash and a 4-day luxury stay at the Marriott International Renaissance Nusa Dua Resort in Bali, Indonesia.
