The Boston Celtics just finished a long, complicated, and draining season, and they need some time to think and regroup.
That is what president of basketball operations Brad Stevens said at his season-ending press conference, via ESPN.
Speaking to the media, he admitted that there are many questions about his team and its path forward – and they will all be addressed.
But for now, the Celtics are going to enjoy some much-needed time off.
“I know there will be a lot of questions about what’s next,” Stevens said during his season-ending news conference on Monday. “At the end of the day I think that will all be driven by the same thing that’s always driven us and that’s, ‘How do we get ourselves in the mix to compete for championships best?’ I think that will get more clarity as we take a deep breath, get a little more sleep than we have the last three nights.”
No matter how the team looks next year, Stevens made it clear that its goal will remain the same: they plan to win a title.
That was the objective in 2024-25, especially since they won last season.
Unfortunately, the Eastern Conference was tougher than ever, and the Celtics faced serious adversity.
Now they are in a tough spot because they just lost their biggest star to a devastating injury, and they have a very expensive roster.
There is a good chance that Jayson Tatum misses much, if not all, of next season, and the team has multiple costly contracts that will bog them down.
The team has big decisions to make if they wish to stay competitive, and Stevens will be at the center of every single choice.
At this time last year, the Celtics were on their way to a championship, and now they are contemplating their future.
A lot has changed over the last season, and even more could change this summer.
