The New England Patriots moved on from Joe Milton III to take some pressure and competition off Drake Maye.
Of course, they were always going to roll with Maye, who was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and showed potential as a rookie, but doubling down on the quarterback this offseason also made sense.
They’re clearly committed to him, and they’re putting all their eggs in that basket.
Notably, that’s why fans might not be thrilled to hear that Maye recently had a rough day.
“Drake Maye threw 4 interceptions in practice today, per Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald,” John Frascella wrote on X.

Everybody can have a bad day now and then, and the important thing is to be ready for when it counts.
If anything, this is the time to make mistakes.
Even so, that’s not what you want to hear after all the raves surrounding Maye this offseason.
He showed glimpses of great play as a rookie, and though the Patriots didn’t seem to have much of a choice but to play him, it was also clear that he was slightly ahead of schedule in his development.
In addition to trading Milton to the Dallas Cowboys, the Patriots went to great lengths this offseason to get Maye some protection on the offensive line.
They also added solid weapons for the passing game, not to mention hiring proven winner Mike Vrabel as his new head coach.
The Patriots will have to wait and see whether this practice was something to worry about or if it was just a bad day.
