MANILA, Philippines —The stars of NCAA women’s volleyball can declare for the 2025 PVL Rookie Draft even while Season 100 is still ongoing.

With the NCAA tournament midway through the second round of eliminations and the PVL draft application deadline set for Friday, the country’s oldest collegiate league is allowing players to enter the draft as long as they secure permission from the Management Committee.

“Those who are interested in getting drafted by the PVL teams, inform the management committee about their intention to join the Draft. That’s all they have to do. The NCAA will not prevent anyone from being drafted, and in fact, we will endorse the request to be drafted,” said NCAA Season 100 Management Committee Chairman Herc Callanta of Lyceum.

“To my knowledge, three players have already signified their intention of wanting to be drafted to the PVL. And they have written letters already and the respective mancomm representatives of those schools have already endorsed the letters.”

And even if an NCAA player gets drafted, she can still play for her school as long as she has yet to sign a pro contract, as per the league rules.

“The NCAA allows that, as long as they don’t sign a contract yet. Players can join the Draft, attend the Combine, even get drafted and start practicing with their new team. They just can’t sign a contract or play in any official PVL games yet. Exhibition games? Those are okay. We’ll allow that,” said NCAA volleyball committee member Peter Cayco of Arellano University in Filipino.

“And this goes for even basketball, all professional leagues that want to draft NCAA players, they can actually be drafted, [however] they should not sign a contract yet for as long as the season is ongoing. They will be offered contracts, I’m sure, but they should not sign yet their contracts prior to the end of the season,” Callanta added.

In fact, the NCAA revealed that College of Saint Benilde star Mycah Go has already applied for the draft.

Go was signed by Farm Fresh in the 2023 PVL season but didn’t play a single game due to a knee injury. Because she wasn’t lined up, the Lady Blazers’ spiker is required to enter the PVL Rookie Draft.

“Actually, two players have already applied—they wrote to the NCAA to say they want to join. One is Mycah Go from CSB, and the other is from LPU,” said Cayco.

Last year, Arellano’s Lorraine Pecaña was the lone NCAA player selected in the first round of the inaugural PVL Draft. Choco Mucho picked her 11th overall, and she emerged as the team’s starting middle blocker in the All-Filipino Conference.

Other former NCAA standouts drafted included Perpetual Help middle blocker Razel Aldea (Nxled), Arellano setter Donnalyn Paralejas (Petro Gazz), and another Lady Chief, Dodee Batindaan (Galeries Tower).

The Draft Lottery is set for Monday at the TV5 Media Center, with Nxled holding the highest probability of landing the No. 1 overall pick at 40 percent, followed by Capital1 at 30 percent. Farm Fresh and Galeries Tower are tied in the combined standings and will undergo a tiebreaker to determine who gets the 20 percent and 10 percent lottery chances.
