The New York Knicks attempted a comeback of their own on Friday night, but it just wasn’t enough.
In the end, the Indiana Pacers were able to steal another road game, earn a 2-0 series lead, and put the Knicks in a very bad position.
Following his team’s 114-109 loss at home, Josh Hart talked to ESPN about what went wrong and how difficult the road ahead will be.
“Obviously they do a really good job of moving the ball and forcing you into mistakes, and we have to be more sound defensively to guard the first action, second action, but also the third action,” Knicks wing Josh Hart said. “We’re down 0-2, and now we’re going to a tough place to play — Indiana — so we’ve got to go and fix it. We can’t have blown coverages, no matter how late it is in the shot clock.”
The Knicks were down by 10 points with three minutes left, but they chipped away at that lead and looked close to tying or pulling ahead.
But, as Hart said, the Pacers forced them into mistakes, including an ill-advised deep three-pointer from Jalen Brunson that would have tied the game.
The Pacers are a fast team, which is one of the reasons why they are so threatening.
They are also very intelligent, knowing how to push their opponents around and put them into bad spots where mistakes will cost them.
Now the Knicks have to head to Indiana in hopes of winning a game on the road.
Climbing out of a 2-0 hole is difficult, but getting out of a 3-0 one is all but impossible.
They know the odds are stacked against them, but the Knicks still think they can stay in this series.
But that won’t be possible if they continue to fall into Indiana’s traps and make mistakes.
