Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder had an off night on Saturday during Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but he was looking much better on Monday.
In fact, the league’s reigning MVP made history with his incredible statline.
According to NBA.com/Stats, Gilgeous-Alexander became just the fifth player in NBA history to record 40 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds in a Conference Finals game.

As he has done numerous times before, Gilgeous-Alexander led everyone on the court with his point total.
During Game 3, the Timberwolves found a way to minimize him, and that left the Thunder without a primary ball-handler and facilitator.
That wasn’t the case on Monday, and he was all over the court, shooting from his multiple spots and also finding his teammates when they were set up for a bucket.
This is just the latest great game for Gilgeous-Alexander, who could be on the way to his first championship ring.
If he claims the title, it’ll cap off an amazing season that will be talked about for years to come.
Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder have come into their own in 2024-25 and are finally viewed as the fierce and fearsome threat they are.
He has already won MVP and will likely be named Western Conference Finals MVP too if the Thunder win.
What could be next for him in the weeks ahead?
This season has been about so much more than just the numbers for Gilgeous-Alexander, but his stats have been fantastic and impossible to ignore.
He is simply doing things that few others have, and history is being made.
