The Philadelphia Flyers are locking up one of their young studs to avoid restricted free agency.
Philadelphia is set to sign winger Tyson Foerster to a two-year, $7.5-million contract extension worth $3.75 million AAV, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Thursday.
Foerster could have become a restricted free agent this summer. He’ll now be under contract with the team through the 2026-27 campaign.
The 23-year-old had a solid breakout season last year, tallying 25 goals and 18 assists for 43 points in 81 games while primarily playing on the team’s top six.
A native of Alliston, Ont., Foerster was named to Canada’s roster for the most recent IIHF men’s hockey world championship earlier this month.
Drafted 23rd overall by the Flyers in 2020, Foerster has 48 goals and 35 assists for 83 points over 166 career games at the NHL level.
