Former Player Says Thunder Star Will Make Close To $400 Million

The Oklahoma City Thunder will have to break the bank to keep their superstar in town.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has taken his game to new heights this season, and with his MVP award, he will now be eligible to sign the largest contract extension in NBA history.

As pointed out by former NBA player Quentin Richardson on “The Pat McAfee Show,” the Canadian star will make almost $400 million in his next contract extension.

Gilgeous-Alexander was already on track to get a lofty pay raise in the offseason.

As a two-time All-NBA selection, he was eligible to sign a four-year deal worth $293 million, which translated to 30% of the total salary cap.

Now, as an MVP, he will be eligible to sign for 35% of the salary cap, which equates to a four-year deal worth a whopping $380 million.

With this deal, he will make $76 million in annual average salary, which is even more than Patrick Mahomes or Shohei Ohtani.

He’s currently in the midst of a five-year, $172 million extension, and that would drive his career earnings to $576 million by the time his supermax contract runs out, assuming he doesn’t get another extension.

Needless to say, while that looks like a lot of money, because it is, it shouldn’t be long before someone else tops it and makes it look like an average deal at some point in the next couple of years.

Gilgeous-Alexander ran away with MVP in a race that wasn’t as close as some thought, and he’s been the best player in the NBA playoffs so far by a margin.
