The New England Patriots wanted to make life easier for their promising quarterback.
They emphasized adding young talent to the offense in the 2025 NFL Draft and brought in veterans to surround Drake Maye.
Also, with Rhamondre Stevenson struggling to hold on to the football last season, the need for a running back was evident.
According to Carlos A. Lopez, it seems like rookie TreVeyon Henderson is in line to be New England’s primary ball-carrier this season.
“From the looks of it, RB TreVeyon Henderson has been consistently repping with the Patriots’ starting offense. Henderson will most likely be one of the few rookies that are able to contribute immediately,” Lopez wrote on X.

Of course, it’s very early in offseason practices.
Then again, Henderson drew a first-round grade from some scouts and was considered to be the third-best player at his position in this draft class behind Ashton Jeanty and Omarion Hampton.
Henderson was the most efficient part of a dominant running back tandem at Ohio State, helping them win a national championship.
As such, the second-round pick should be more than comfortable sharing duties with Stevenson, who showed potential before his regression in one season under head coach Jerod Mayo.
The Patriots also bolstered their offensive line, as establishing the run has always been a priority for head coach Mike Vrabel.
That should also make things easier for Maye in his first full season as the starter.
The Patriots are still far from getting back to championship contention, but an impact player like Henderson could help steer them in the right direction.
