One of the best hitters for the Toronto Blue Jays this season was injured running the bases Saturday afternoon.
Daulton Varsho suffered an injury to his left leg while attempting to stretch a double into a triple in the third inning against the Athletics.
Varsho was in immediate pain and was tagged out while hobbling towards third base. He hobbled off the field with help from coaches and trainers, and Myles Straw replaced Varsho in centerfield to start the fourth inning.
Varsho missed the first month of the season while recovering from shoulder surgery but he has been swinging a hot bat since returning to the lineup. He is tied for the team lead with eight home runs, and he is hitting .282/.390/.432 with an .822 OPS in 24 games entering play Saturday.
