Waratahs hammered as season comes to ugly end, Test spots on shaky ground

Battered, bruised and feeling the Blues.

The NSW Waratahs’ season is officially over after being hammered 46-6 by the reigning Super Rugby champions, the Blues, at Eden Park on Saturday afternoon.

Needing to win to make the finals, the Waratahs copped a record hiding against the Blues after being kept tryless and conceded seven five-pointers themselves.

Maligned All Blacks star Rieko Ioane scored a hat-trick in the rout, which saw him join Doug Howlett (55) at the top of the tryscoring tree from the Blues.

While his All Blacks teammate Mark Tele’a also had a happy return after missing the past three games due to suspension by grabbing two tries himself.
