The New York Knicks face a franchise-defining decision this offseason as they weigh whether to build around Karl-Anthony Towns or explore other paths.
After their Eastern Conference Finals loss to the Indiana Pacers, the organization has turned its attention to potential roster upgrades that could elevate them from contenders to champions.
Trade speculation has already begun, with talk of a deal of Towns for Kevin Durant.
Insider Frank Isola recently outlined that scenario, which would send shockwaves through the NBA.
“I would think long and hard about it, just because I know I can trust Durant in the playoffs, especially offensively, even defensively, he’s going to give you something. And again, I’m looking at that window for the Knicks. I really do think it’s about a 2-3 year window with a lot of these guys,” Isola said on “The Herd.”

The proposal centers around acquiring Durant from the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Towns, a move that would dramatically alter the Knicks’ trajectory.
Reports following the playoff elimination suggested internal frustration with Towns’ defensive commitment throughout the season, adding fuel to departure rumors after just one season in New York.
Towns brings undeniable offensive talent and has reached consecutive conference finals with different organizations.
However, Durant’s championship experience and playoff reliability present a compelling alternative despite concerns about age and injury history.
Durant’s contract situation would require careful navigation, but his championship hunger after missing the postseason could make him particularly motivated.
A potential Durant acquisition would create a formidable New York starting lineup featuring Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, Mitchell Robinson and Durant.
That combination would blend offensive firepower with defensive versatility, potentially maximizing the championship window that head coach Tom Thibodeau helped establish.
