The Houston Rockets showed a lot of promise this year and ended up being one of the best teams in the Western Conference, but they are ready to take the next step and do more.
That means they could be making some changes this summer.
According to Kelly Iko, Cam Whitmore is “drawing interest” on the trade market.
“A handful of teams have inquired about the availability of sparingly-used wing Cam Whitmore, league and team sources said. Since being drafted with the No. 20 pick in 2023, Whitmore has struggled to entrench himself in Udoka’s tight rotation and at times has expressed his displeasure at the end of the bench, but there is still optimism about his potential and rotation spot — having shown strong periods of play over the last two seasons. At this stage, neither Whitmore nor his representation has requested a trade and both sides are hopeful of finding a solution,” said Iko, per NBACentral.

When Whitmore joined the league after the 2023 draft, it looked like he was going to be the future face of the franchise.
It hasn’t worked out that way.
He averaged 9.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists during the 2024-25 season, shooting 44.4 percent from the field.
Whitmore only participated in 51 games and played for just 16.2 minutes during that time, showing that head coach Ime Udoka doesn’t really have a place for him.
But the young star has talent and was the 20th overall pick in the draft.
For the right price and in the proper deal, another squad might view Whitmore as someone who can grow into a superstar.
That is likely why a number of teams are looking at him and contemplating a trade for him.
Unless the Rockets have the chance to sign a major star, like Kevin Durant, they probably won’t make huge adjustments.
But moving someone like Whitmore makes sense considering how rarely he’s used and the current trade market.
