Olivia Smith was stretchered off the field mere minutes into the Canadian women’s soccer team’s international friendly against Haiti on Tuesday.
The young superstar was recognized with the 2024 Young Player of the Year award before the game, and then, just 13 minutes into the action, was forced to leave the field with medical staff after she took a close-range clearance ball to the head.
Adriana Leon subbed on in her place. Prior to this match, Canada was ranked seventh overall while Haiti was ranked No. 53.
Smith has four goals and three assists in 17 appearances for Canada, including a goal in Canada’s 4-1 victory over Haiti in Winnipeg on Saturday.
Earlier this week, the 20-year-old was also voted 2024-25 player of the season by Liverpool FC Women for tying the team lead in goals with nine over 25 contests. This year marks her debut in England’s Women’s Super League.
